How A Los Angeles Prosthodontist Cosmetically Treats A Single Tooth

In my daily work as a prosthodontist in downtown Los Angeles, I often come across cases that require a meticulous touch. One such common challenge is dealing with a single front tooth affected by discoloration due to trauma, an issue many people have encountered. It’s not about creating extravagant transformations; it’s about solving real problems with straightforward solutions.

In this article, I will take you through a real-life case, shedding light on the practical aspects of cosmetic dentistry. We’ll explore the steps in addressing a single tooth’s cosmetic issues, focusing on the subtle details that make all the difference. So, let’s dive into cosmetic dentistry, where everyday cases inspire our work, and our goal is to restore an attractive natural smile, one tooth at a time.

Cosmetic Treatment of a Single Front Tooth

Sometimes the most difficult dental cases involve precise shade matching of a single front tooth. For example, the case below shows a central incisor that is discolored due to trauma. Many of us have accidentally hit or experienced trauma to a front tooth at a young age and now the tooth may appear yellow or discolored. If the nerve in the tooth is healthy and vital, the best treatment is to simply place a veneer or crown over the tooth to mask the discoloration.

Matching a single veneer or crown to the adjacent tooth is extremely difficult. Many dentists will simply veneer both teeth to avoid difficulty matching the shade. I try to be as conservative as possible with these cases and only treat what is necessary. I also have the benefit of having an in-office dental ceramist and we are able to closely match a patient’s natural tooth characteristics. Matching to the existing natural tooth structure requires careful evaluation of the healthy adjacent tooth. Notice the bluish translucency of the incisal edge and how the light reflects from the irregular surface texture of the enamel.

With our close collaboration here in the office, the dental ceramist and I are able to communicate, plan and fabricate porcelain veneers or crowns that are unique to your natural tooth structure in Downtown Los Angeles or Laguna Niguel, Orange County. We are able to make modifications to achieve the closest match to your natural tooth.

Full-Arch Dental Implant Rehabilitation Case Report

Restoring Function, Comfort, and Confidence with Implant Dentistry in Los Angeles & Orange County When patients lose multiple teeth or experience severe dental breakdown, everyday activities like chewing, speaking, and smiling can become difficult and frustrating. In this complex implant reconstruction case, Adam Geach, DMD, MDSc — Prosthodontist at Geach Dental — restored a patient’s bite, function, and appearance using advanced dental implant treatment and full-mouth reconstruction techniques. This type of case highlights why specialized prosthodontic training matters when rebuilding a patient’s occlusion with dental implants. The Patient’s Concerns The patient came to Geach Dental with several serious dental problems, including: These issues not only affected appearance but also severely impacted daily function and long-term oral health. For many patients in Los Angeles and Orange County, this situation is more common than they realize. Missing back teeth and failing dental work can gradually cause the bite to collapse over time, leading to difficulty eating, jaw strain, and accelerated tooth wear. See pictures below.  Diagnosis: Advanced Bite Collapse and Tooth Loss After a comprehensive prosthodontic evaluation, the diagnosis included: Because the remaining lower teeth could not be predictably saved, a full-arch implant reconstruction was recommended. Advanced Digital Treatment Planning Complex implant cases require careful planning before any treatment begins. At Geach Dental, advanced digital scanning and prosthodontic treatment planning were used to determine the ideal tooth position, bite relationship, smile design, and implant placement. One of the most important goals in implant dentistry is not simply replacing teeth — it is restoring the bite in a healthy, stable, and natural way. Most of the patient’s upper teeth were healthy enough to preserve, while the remaining lower teeth required extraction due to extensive bone loss. Full-Arch Dental Implant Reconstruction After removing the failing lower teeth, precision-guided implant surgery was performed. Treatment Included: Following a healing period of approximately three months, the implants were restored with: Unlike removable dentures, this implant bridge is permanently fixed in place, giving the patient a much more natural and secure experience while eating and speaking. A Smile Designed for Function and Long-Term Health At Geach Dental, implant restorations are designed not only for esthetics, but also for long-term maintainability and hygiene. The lower implant bridge was carefully designed to allow the patient to floss effectively and clean around the implants using specialized hygiene tools such as a water flosser. This is a critical aspect of successful implant dentistry that is often overlooked. The Final Result The completed reconstruction restored: The patient can now comfortably eat a wide range of foods without worrying about loose dentures or unstable teeth. An additional benefit of this case was the ability to preserve the patient’s healthy upper front teeth. Minor cosmetic recontouring was performed to improve the appearance while maintaining natural tooth structure. See pictures below of the final result.  Why Choose a Prosthodontist for Dental Implants? A prosthodontist is a dental specialist with advanced training in: Cases involving severe tooth loss, collapsing bites, or advanced implant reconstruction require far more than simply placing implants. Proper bite design, esthetics, jaw function, and long-term durability all need to work together. At Geach Dental, patients receive highly customized implant and reconstructive treatment designed specifically for long-term health, function, and esthetics. If you have missing teeth and are looking to improve your chewing function and esthetics, we encourage you to contact Geach Dental at (213) 622-3339, or schedule a consultation. Dental Implant Makeover in Los Angeles: How a Prosthodontist Restored a Natural Smile

Patients often believe that once dental implants are placed, the final result will automatically look natural. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Poor implant crown shape, exposed metal, gum recession, and bone loss can leave patients feeling self-conscious about their smile — especially in the front teeth where esthetics matter most. At Geach Dental in Downtown Los Angeles and Laguna Niguel, we specialize in correcting complex implant and cosmetic dentistry cases that require advanced prosthodontic expertise. This case highlights how careful prosthodontic treatment planning transformed an unattractive implant restoration into a natural-looking, functional smile. When Dental Implants Don’t Look Natural This patient was referred to Dr. Adam Geach by a periodontist because he was unhappy with the appearance of his front dental implant crowns. The existing restorations had several cosmetic and structural problems: Although the implants themselves were stable and healthy, the esthetics were failing. See picture below.  For patients in Los Angeles seeking cosmetic dental implants, this is a common issue. Implant placement is only one part of the process — the final prosthetic design is what determines whether the smile looks natural. Why Complex Implant Cases Require a Prosthodontist A prosthodontist is a dental specialist with advanced training in cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, bite function, and full-mouth reconstruction. In complex anterior implant cases, success depends on more than simply replacing teeth. A prosthodontist must carefully design: This level of planning is especially important when there is bone and gum tissue loss in the front teeth. At Geach Dental, every implant restoration is designed with both esthetics and function in mind. The Treatment Process 1. Removal of the Existing Implant Crowns The first step was carefully removing the old implant crowns to evaluate the health and stability of the underlying implants. This process is highly technical and requires precision to avoid damaging the implants or surrounding tissue. 2. Digital Planning and Smile Design Detailed impressions and bite records were taken to begin designing the new restorations. The case was then planned through Geach Dental’s in-office dental laboratory, allowing for complete control over esthetics, shape, and function. This level of customization is critical for high-end cosmetic implant dentistry in Los Angeles. 3. Custom Titanium Implant Abutments Custom titanium abutments were fabricated to support the new implant crowns. Titanium was selected because it offers: The abutments were anodized in gold to minimize dark or gray discoloration beneath the gum tissue. This small detail makes a difference in achieving natural-looking implant restorations. See picture below.  4. Custom Zirconia Implant Crowns New splinted zirconia implant crowns were designed to recreate ideal tooth proportions and natural esthetics. Because the patient had experienced significant gum and bone loss, specialized pink porcelain was added to mimic the appearance of natural gum tissue. This allowed the restorations to blend with the surrounding smile. The final restorations were designed to: The Final Result: Natural Esthetics + Strong Function The patient achieved a dramatically improved smile that looked natural and functioned comfortably. The new implant restorations allowed the patient to confidently bite into hard foods while maintaining a stable bite and harmonious smile design. See picture below.  This is the difference advanced prosthodontic treatment can make.
